Cutting a firebreak around a Kooralbyn home
Lantana, acacia and black wattle had been creeping towards a home on a Kooralbyn acreage. As it dried out, it was building up fuel right beside the house. The owner called Treesafe Environmental Services to clear a firebreak and bring the bushfire risk down.
Dry fuel closing in on the house
The vegetation had grown close enough to the dwelling that it could help carry a fire to the house and on to neighbouring properties. Clearing it back and establishing a proper break was the priority.
Tight access and a chipper that couldn't get close
Getting to the clearing zone meant taking machinery through and close to the house, and the neighbouring fences had to be protected along the way. The chipper couldn’t be set up beside all the vegetation, so cleared material had to be ferried across to it.
Our five-person crew used a tracked forestry mulcher alongside a 5-tonne and a 14-tonne excavator to clear the lantana, acacia and black wattle, moving the cut material to the chipper as they went.

Three and a half hours to a safer property
The job was done in about three and a half hours. There’s now much less combustible vegetation near the house, which helps protect both the home and the neighbours. The owner was impressed by how quickly we could get to the site and finish, and relieved to have it done.
Treesafe is a Queensland Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor and carries $20 million public liability insurance. Our crews include AQF Level 3 qualified arborists, with AQF Level 5 arborist expertise available when a job calls for it.
